Philosophy

ILG School believes that students should have ownership of their learning, as well as in developing the school in terms of policies, procedures, and activities. Therefore, student voice and input is critically important to the Mission of ILG School.

Purpose

The purpose of the House System is to develop leaders amongst the students, by providing an opportunity for pastoral care for all students and by strengthening the ILG School community.

Goals

• To develop a strong sense of school spirit and community

• To develop stronger bonds between grade levels

• To create opportunities for students to serve as leaders

• To create opportunities to bring students together

• To encourage participation by all students in school

What is the House System?

• The House System comprises of four Houses (Blue, Yellow, Green, and Purple)

• Each House consists of students from Early Years 1 – Grade 10

• Each student is assigned to a house for his or her entire time at ILG School

• Siblings are placed in the same House

• There are approximately 40 students in each House

House System Position Descriptions

Each House is overseen by a House Mentor (staff), a House Captain (student), and a House Vice-Captain (student). Students are eligible to participate if they are in good academic and behavioral standing. Students who are unable to manage these expectations may be removed from their position.

House Mentor

A voluntary staff member who oversees the development of the House and the students within the House. House Mentors work closely with their House Captains to plan and execute House events, such as student orientations, assemblies, dances, socials, and other House-related activities, as well as help to create a positive and spirited House culture and identity.

House Captain

The role involves leadership, mentoring and the maintenance of an achievable standard to which other students can aspire to. Duties include leading their House at community events, mentoring junior students and fellow leaders as well as organizing and supporting school events.

House Captains work closely with their House Mentors to plan and execute House events, such as student orientations, assemblies, dances, socials, and other House-related activities, as well as help to create a positive and spirited House culture and identity.

House Vice-Captain

The House Vice-Captain will work closely with the House Captain. The House Vice-Captain will also serve as House Captain in the absence of the House Captain.
